So my experience with child birth was interesting. Saturday morning at 2:00 am I began to have contractions. These were a bit stronger than usual so I knew this could be it. I waited an hour and timed them out . Around 3:00, I told Kevin I needed to go to the hospital. When we arrived, they hooked me up to the FHM and the contractions monitor. Then they made me sit in this chair that was as hard as tile flooring. I freaked out because things were moving south and the contractions were getting stronger. At that point I was only 3 cm dilated. They won't admit you until 4 cm. I finally told them I wouldn't mind going home and walking laps around my house. They gave me a shot that took the edge off and sent me home. We were told to give it about an hour or two and return to the hospital. So we did. At this point I was 4 almost 5 cm. They admitted me and I wasted no time asking for an epidural. I'm a little weird about hospital needles but it's amazing what you'll do in a time of desperation. I received my epidural and felt a bit better. At this point we had been at the hospital for about an hour or so when Kevin ran home to check on the animals. While he was out, things started to take a serious nose dive. My epidural gave up and quit working. The pain became more and more intense as the seconds past. I was beginning to feel every bit of labor. Can I just tell you I was ready to call it quits. Before Kevin returned, I was a major basket case. I was freaking out like those women you see on A Baby Story going "natural". When Kevin returned, I was in full freak out mode. I was crying and screaming and desperate for relief. The torpedo was ready to launch but the operator was on lunch break if you know what I mean. We were basically waiting for me to be completely dilated before I could start pushing. I received a second epidural and this time I was numb from the hips down. While enduring the pain of labor, I asked myself, 'how can a woman possibly have more than one child'? Is the intense pain of your pelvic region worth it for another child?? As long as we modern medicine, you bet your ass it is!! For the remaining 6 hours of labor, I felt like a ninja. I could have saved the world. Kevin and I watched TV instead. Hours past and the nurse and doctor came in to check me. What do you know I'm ready to go!! Before I knew it, we had a new baby boy and I would be sleep deprived for the rest of my life. It's all worth it.
